305 With the introduction of the new regulation 36A from 6 April 2018 landlords will be able to have gas safety checks carried out any time from 10 to 12 calendar months after the previous check but still retain the original deadline date as if the check had been carried out exactly 12 months after the previous check.

Gas Safe – Landlords’ Gas Safety Responsibilities

New regulations introduced in April 2018 allow a landlord to arrange for a gas safety check to be carried out any time from 10 – 12 calendar months after the previous check whilst still preserving the original check expiry date.

The answer to the question is the next safety check ‘may’ be carried out 10 – 12 calendar months after the last deadline date (Next safety check due by date on previous gas safety record) and no later than 12 months after the last deadline date (Next safety check due by date on previous gas safety record).

Beware of unscrupulous gas engineers telling you otherwise in a hope they can do gas safety checks earlier and earlier each year!
