Before bringing into the property any gas appliance, check the terms of your tenancy agreement and seek consent from the landlord. If the landlord gives you such consent, ask the landlord if any flues or chimneys in the property are unsuitable for the installation of a gas appliance.

If you bring into the property any gas appliance, you must ensure they are safe to use and are properly connected to the appropriate pipework in the property by a suitably qualified gas engineer and to immediately stop using and remove any such gas appliance which is, or becomes known to be, unsafe or dangerous to either the occupants or the property.

If you install a heat producing appliance (e.g. fire) in the property you must produce to the landlord a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate. If you install a flueless gas cooking appliance (e.g. cooker or hob) in the property you must produce to the landlord a Declaration of Safety Certificate.

Once installed, you must produce to the landlord annually a Gas Safety record for any such appliance.
