No – The law does not stipulate the power source of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. However the general guidance for the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022 recommends ‘Where battery powered alarms are selected, alarms with ‘sealed for life’ batteries rather than alarms with replaceable batteries are the better option.
